The centre's aims to improve the conditions of the Somali community, to provide support and services for the community, improve the access for Somalis to mainstream services, develop and provide training programmes, liase with statutory and voluntary organisations, to provide social activities for all age groups and so on.

The idea of setting up the Somali Community Association originally came from a group of 20 immigrants in 1987.

The community has come a long way since.
